discretion: (smile though your heart is aching)

Franz chuckles at the joke. It's a weak one, but there's a shortage of them around right now. He laughs almost more because he's surprised to hear it made than the fact it's funny. He thinks perhaps the doctor is staring at him a little. He's used to people paying him a certain amount of attention, though it's usually women, and not often people his own age, at that. Sometimes there might be a comment thrown in about his brown eyes, if people know both of his parents have blue eyes, but that's almost more of a passive aggressive attack on his parentage than anything else. Unlikely anyone would attempt such tactics here, after all, no one knows who he is at all. And a baron is not a job like a doctor, in retrospect, he should not have brought it up at all.

"Communications off-ship will be my area," Franz says almost apologetically. "I was studying to become an interplanetary diplomat before I -" (died horribly) "wound up here. And since I know a little more about opera than I do terrible orientation videos, I'm afraid my input on the subject would only make things worse. Unless you wanted all those cheesy re-enactments to also involve a ten minute aria after someone has died on a foreign planet. Actually, that might be pretty entertaining."
